Having a wet Ipad is probably the worst and terrible things to be done with your device. Although, water damage has been known to be a common problem with all devices for some time now but still this damage can cause a significant drop in value and will often void your warranty. However, most tablets including some of the iPad models have some sort of water damage indicator. Like the original iPad has two water damage indicators located on its device and when the iPad was launched, they were referred as ‘liquid submersion indicators.’ But now Apple has given them a new name of ‘liquid contact indicators’ or LCI and the located the first LCI in the audio jack port. Another LCI is located inside the dock connector on the opposite side of the pins.

It is important to note that the iPad 2 has no water damage indictors on the device and the only way to check for water damage on the iPad 2 is to look for corrosion in the SIM card tray.

In case you have completely immersed your iPad  then don’t even try to restart it by plugging it into a power source. Simply, follow the given steps and increase your chances of resurrecting it.

  • It is better to turn off your iPad immediately and do not turn it back on or connect it to a computer or other device even for charging purposes.
  • Hand dry your iPad and the best way to do it with a soft microfiber towel. First, remove your SIM card and then pat down any excess moisture and wipe out the headphone and charge ports.
  • Now the next step is to quickly place the iPad in a bag of uncooked rice and let it stay there for 48 hours in a dry place. If you want, you can also add silica packages to the rice to help the absorption process.
  • After passing 48 hours at a dry place, try to remove your iPad and start turning it back on. It is relatively safe now so you can connect your iPad to your computer and try to do a complete Restore with iTunes as this procedure will provide you with the best chance of getting the iPad to its original working state.

Unfortunately an  iPad is not covered for water damage under Apple’s warranty and water damage is definitely no fun so if your kids are water threat to the family iPad do check into purchasing a waterproof case. These plastic bag-like covers keep the moisture out while still being responsive to touch.

Given above are just the things that you could do as a remedy more like the first aid but still a better suggestion is that after applying all the methods of drying your iPad ,do take it to the Apple Store for further check up especially if you notice that there has been a significant change in its performance.
